Sony Center

A Sony-Sponsored building complex in the heart of Berlin, the Sony Center welcomes more than 8 million visitors annually. The centre was completed in 2000 to the tune of $800 million. Helmut Janh designed the structure that now houses a mix of restaurants, shops, hotel rooms, luxurious suites and condominiums, art and film museums, offices and even a conference centre. The complex is also home to an IMAX theatre, cinemas and a ìSony Styleî store. Along with its numerous amenities, the Sony Center also offers free Wi-Fi connections to its guests. The centre is easily accessible and is situated in the Potsdamer Platz near the railway station. Guests can easily walk to the centre from the railway station. The centre is also located near a large shopping centre, the Deutsche Bahn central offices, a variety of hotels and an office building that is home to Europe's fastest lift. In 2006, during the FIFA World Cup, centre officials hoisted a large television screen so that its guests could watch the game. Visitors could view the broadcast from the plaza below. Structurally, the complex is composed of seven steel and glass buildings surrounding a light-flooded plaza covered by a roof space. Today the centre is known as Berlin's ìprominent hallmark.î
